On the morning of April 24, the launching ceremony of the 2021 "Space Day of China" and the opening ceremony of the 2021 China Space Conference kicked off in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, with the theme of "Voyaging into Space, Pursuing Dreams".
Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu Province, Zhang Kejian, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and director of the China National Space Administration, Han Liming, member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee and secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Committee, attended the launching ceremony and delivered speeches; Qi Jiabin, vice governor of Jiangsu Province, attended the ceremony; Wu Yanhua, deputy director of the China National Space Administration, announced the name of the first Mars rover in China.
Yuan Jie, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and President of CASIC, Wei Yiyin, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager, Gong Bo, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager, senior managers of CASIC, leaders of relevant departments at headquarters and relevant units attended the ceremony.
Yuan Jie and the participating leaders jointly launched the main event of "Space Day of China" and announced the opening of the China Space Conference. More than 40 academicians, representatives from the central and state organs, some central SOEs, space-related units, universities, middle and primary schools and media, and a total of about 1000 people, including the Pakistani minister Arshad and envoys from 12 countries, including Russia, Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Thailand and the United States, as well as foreign guests from international organizations such as the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization and the China-ASEAN Center, and the Caelus Foundation attended the launching ceremony to talk about space development.
At the opening ceremony, Jiangsu Provincial People's Government signed strategic cooperation framework agreements with five groups led by CASIC, to promote cooperation in high-tech fields. Gong Bo signed on stage on behalf of CASIC.
China Space Foundation nominated the "Qian Xuesen Award for Highest Achievement", "Mengzhilan Space Special Award", "Space Innovation Team Award" and "Qian Xuesen Award for Outstanding Contribution" in 2020. "Li Zhi, Director of Science and Technology Committee of the CASIC Second Academy, was awarded the "Qian Xuesen Award for Outstanding Contribution", and 69 people from the CASIC were awarded the "Space Contribution Award". Leaders and experts presented awards to the winner representatives.
After the opening ceremony, the guests visited the "Voyaging into Space, Pursuing Dreams" themed Aerospace Achievement Science Exhibition, the 100th Anniversary CPC Photo Exhibition, the China Aerospace Enterprise Exhibition, the Special Commercial Spaceflight Exhibition, and the Jiangsu Local Industry Integration Special Exhibition, etc.
At the China Aerospace Enterprise Exhibition, the booth of CASIC was the first one at the entrance, displaying exhibits such as rendezvous and docking microwave radar, Chang'e 5's lunar flag display system, high-precision spaceborne rubidium atomic, phased array sensor, space station cargo return module, etc., introduced Feiyun Project, Tengyun Project, Xingyun Project, Flying Train Project, etc., which fully showcased R&D and production system of CASIC covering carrier vehicles, satellite platforms, payloads, satellite measurement and control, space information applications, etc., reflecting the core values of "national interests above all else" and the corporate mission of "empowering the army with science and technology and serving the nation with aerospace technology" of CASIC.
During the "Space Day of China", Wei Yiyin, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager of CASIC and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a special report entitled Outlook for the Development of Aerospace Vehicles - Launching a New Journey of Space Flight Exploration at the main forum of the China Space Conference. He gave a unique insight into the current situation, layout and future development of aerospace vehicles; Hou Xiufeng, Secretary of the Board of Directors of CASIC, gave a keynote report on the Space Industry Development and Commercial Space International Forum titled Promoting Innovation and Development of Commercial Spaceflight Industry with System Application.
The sixth "Space Day of China" main venue activities in Nanjing was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China National Space Administration, Jiangsu Provincial People's Government. Every year since 2016 when China set April 24 as the "Space Day of China", five main events have been held in Beijing, Xi'an, Harbin, Changsha and Fuzhou respectively.
